Touch screen is too small. Chess pieces are hard to identify because in addition to being very small they do not look like traditional chess pieces. The on screen menu is very hard to use and I'm not even sure it works properly. Would not buy again.

Incredible product at this price point. The Top Chess Touch 8 II Chess Computer is stunning.

Let's get something out of the road right away, a couple of reviewers mentioned that this great little chess computer is too noisy. Here I will simply state a famous acronym that many people in tech fields have learnt very well. RTFM (Read The FINE Manual.) Page 45 explains the SN setting which is for the sound signals. Change it to '0' and enjoy your silence if that's what you wish fellow chess fans.

This terrific little chess computer driven by a humble 8 Bit processor has most of what I need in a quick on the fly portable chess computer, it has different chess games, different times can be selected, different hint modes can be used and of course the ability to go back and correct a move to see how the different move will pan out. There's also a teaching mode where the processor will let you know if you have made a serious mistake.(however professionals will no doubt find this formulaic and maybe not agree but it could intrigue you at the very least.)

However what blew me away is that there can not be a wasted bit in this device as stored in this unit are 220 famous chess games featuring the famous chess computer 'Deep Blue', Human players: 'Bobby Fischer, Vladimir Kramnik, Anatoly Karpov and Gary Kasparov. You get to sit back and watch the games move by move. Fascinating to watch, not to mention the moves you can learn.

OK, so your still on the edge about this. There's even 7 other games on this device. You get Checkers(Draughts), Reversi, Four-In-A-Row, Fox and Geese, Grasshopper, Nim and Northcote's game.

Best of all it has a stylus with a holder in the back so you don't have to worry about loosing pieces while out and about. The display is monochrome with a decent back light making it easy to see. Straight forward touch screen.

If there's any negatives it will be purely aesthetics and your thoughts on the quality of the LCD characters that represent the playing pieces.

There's 7 main Chess difficulty levels and I'm finding them nice and challenging.

For the current price (I got mine for just $54 AUD), it's an absolute bargain. If you don't believe me, check online for the price of vintage chess computers. I still enjoy my 1985 Tandy 1650 which still goes and works just great but even though it's pretty portable the risk of loosing pieces is simply to great for a set where said pieces would be non replaceable without purchasing another set. Most chess computers go for between $80 to $700 depending on what your looking for. Also try and find say a Novag for example, there getting rare. Here's a modern well featured little portable that fits in the palm of your hand for an absolute song.

So to conclude if your more after a professional size board with decent Staunton playing pieces then I would point you at the DGT Centaur range of fine chess computers(there's even a wifi model as well.) However if you simply want a handy, easy to use, fit in your pocket, dedicated chess computer, this will provide hours of great chess entertainment for you. On a cramped bus or train, you'll still be able to use your Touch 8 II. A portable Chess computer dream.

Personally I'm being careful with mine as I can't put it down, there's so much magic built into the Touch 8 II you could loose days.

Couldn't recommend it highly enough and anyone putting this set down expects WAY to much for such a small amount of money.

Highly recommended and enjoy fellow chess fans, this one will surprise you.

Smart Technology -Unique Electronic Chess

Found this touch chess can enjoy playing against the computer, as the higher levels will usually feel impossible to beat, which will prove frustrating for most players. This is primarily due to the smart technology and adaptable algorithm that enables it to match the player’s ability level.

nice learning game

I want to get back into chess so I can play with my daughters. This is a great way to refresh my knowledge of the game and improve my skills too.
It is easy to use and so light and small I can carry it in my purse and play while waiting for appointments, etc.

Excellent Touch Chess

I bought this Touch Chess has a very attractive design. It is excellent in bright areas of the larger screen, Touch Chess's ease of use is especially useful when studying moves and positions. some features that will appeal to more advanced players. I highly recommend it.
